PUBLIC CONSULTATION POSTPONED IN LIGHT OF INDEPENDENCE LECTURE

Basseterre, St. Kitts (September 13, 2006): The Electoral Reform Consultative Committee (ERCC) is postponing its September 14 public consultation in light of the 8th Annual Prime Minister’s Independence Lecture, which is being held tomorrow at 8pm.

The Town Hall Meeting for the Bird Rock, Frigate Bay, New Town, and Taylor’s areas was to take place at the New Town Community Centre tomorrow between 7:30pm and 9:30pm. It will be re-scheduled, and the media will be notified of the new date and time.

Jessica Byron, PhD, is the Keynote Speaker for the lecture at the Basseterre High School Auditorium tomorrow night. Byron, a citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis, is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus in Kingston, Jamaica.

The Programme of Events to mark the 23rd Anniversary of St. Kitts and Nevis’s Independence from Britain on September 19, 1983 officially starts with the Gala Night of Independence tonight at 7:30pm, in front of the National Museum.

The theme for this year’s Independence Celebrations is “Partnership, Discipline, and Productivity for a Transformed Country.”
